Traditional Japanese Home and Pottery Village

After visiting the Nakagusuku Castle we decided to stop at a traditional Japanese home.  It was an amazing place with many antiques on display.  It was beautiful inside and out.

Ayla is checking out the pig sty.

Ayla loves cats.  She would walk up to this one and she kept saying, "Hi."  The cat was very good and let Ayla play and talk with it.  It was adorable!
The kiln is built on a hill.  There are many different rooms and each room is used by a different artist.  Somehow Stan and I got separated from Emily and Ayla and we were given a little tour of one of the rooms.

Below are pictures of a different kiln.  This is the one we toured.

There was a lot of pottery on display.  It was all very beautiful.  We didn't find the shisas we were looking for which means we'll just have to go back until we do.
We found this pile of glass bottles alongside one of the houses.  We are not sure if the glass will be recycled into something beautiful or if this is just a collection of bottles.
The massive earthquake happened in Japan as we were out and about.  There had been announcements over the town PA system but none of us understood Japanese.  A lady was able to let us know of the tsunami warning for Okinawa by using an English/Japanese dictionary.  When we returned home we had many missed calls on Skype.  Cassandra (who was still in Alaska) told us what had been happening and we turned on the television.  It was horrible.  Okinawa had not been affected.  We were very lucky.
